Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is when the body doesn’t produce any insulin to handle the glucose in your body. People with type 1 diabetes have to take insulin.  The symptoms include:
• Frequent urination
• Excessive thirst
• Feelings of being hungry all the time
• Weight loss
• Fatigue
• Irritability

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is much more prevalent than type 1 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes are often able to produce insulin, but their bodies either don’t use it correctly or are they unable to produce enough insulin to handle the glucose in their body.  

The symptoms of type 2 diabetes include:
• Any of the type 1 symptoms
• Frequent infections particularly in bladder, skin or gums
• Blurred or impaired vision
• Cuts/bruises that take longer to heal
• Hands and feet feel numb or tingling
