The pineal body, or pineal gland, is a pine cone-shaped gland located in the middle of the brain and is sometimes referred to as the “third eye.”   The pineal gland is involved in several functions of the body including:
• Secretion of the hormone melatonin
• Regulation of endocrine functions
• Conversion of nervous system signals to endocrine signals
• Causes feeling of sleepiness
• Influences sexual development

Pineal Tumors

While representing only a very small percentage of all brain tumors, benign and malignant tumors can develop in the area of the pineal gland.  

Pineal Tumor Symptoms

While similar to other forms of brain tumors, some of the primary symptoms are:
• Headache
• Nausea and vomiting
• Seizures
• Memory problems
• Eyesight problems like blurred vision or double vision
